It brings more openness and more in-depth understanding about things. ’ Have a strategy to record key learning and insights ‘People do this in different ways. A lot of people when they go to sleep they think about one or two impactful findings of the day, about their learnings how they impacted on people. Other people actually write everyday in a diary three or four bullet points about things that impacted their way of doing things or perceiving things or some key learning – sometimes they read back even as far as three years ago and they remember – this helps change.

We have different mental models for different life domains which influence how we view and react to things. For example: we have mental models around what are the attributes of an effective employee or what constitutes effective leadership. The following examples reflect the ‘output’ of mental models that two leaders have about leadership success and philosophy about change: Leadership success Philosophy about change ‘I’d probably equate it to when I look at successful leaders, the qualities that I admire – I look for people who deliver consistently and deliver over the long term rather than short term because I think it can be quite easy sometimes to just look at somebody for something they’ve achieved over a short period of time, but what I really admire are those leaders who are successful over long periods of time.
